Parents today are inundated with sleep advice from social media, online forums, well-meaning friends, and self-proclaimed sleep experts. Unfortunately, much of this information is outdated, oversimplified, or simply not supported by evidence. In this engaging and practical webinar, we will explore what normal infant sleep truly looks like from birth through toddlerhood and help professionals distinguish between developmental realities and common sleep myths.

Using a stage-by-stage approach, we will examine how infant sleep evolves during the first years of life, what families can realistically expect, and the evidence-based strategies that can support both infant development and parental well-being. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of sleep biology, developmental milestones, and the role newborn care specialists, postpartum doulas, nannies, nurses, and other birth and childcare professionals play in helping families navigate sleep challenges.

Topics will include:

  • Why newborn sleep is often unpredictable and why "sleeping through the night" is not an appropriate expectation in the early weeks
  • The importance of parental support, realistic expectations, and building a strong postpartum care team during the newborn period
  • How circadian rhythms develop and the role of light exposure, routines, and feeding patterns in supporting healthy sleep foundations
  • The relationship between breast milk and circadian rhythm development
  • Age-appropriate sleep habits and routines from infancy through toddlerhood
  • Common sleep myths circulating online and what current research actually tells us
  • Understanding sleep cycles, self-soothing, and developmental readiness
  • When behavioral sleep interventions may be appropriate and how to discuss them professionally and nonjudgmentally with families
  • When to refer families to qualified sleep consultants or healthcare providers

Whether you are supporting families during the fourth trimester or caring for older infants and toddlers, this webinar will provide practical, evidence-based guidance that can help you confidently educate parents, set realistic expectations, and support healthy sleep development at every stage.
